Baptist Union Protests Against Nontraditional Sexuality

In Defence of Universal Human Values

---------------------------------------------------------------------

An official statement of the Russian Union of Evangelical Christians-Baptists

M o s c o w –The mass media inform us that an upcoming session of the esteemed United Nations will deliberate on the matter of removing discriminatory clauses against persons and organisations practicing or espousing non-traditional sexual orientation.

We hereby declare officially that we as a church do not support and indeed condemn such a readiness on the part of the UN. Such willingness brings with it the loss of universal values and contradicts common sense regarding the development of human civilisation. We believe that such tendencies will negatively affect the formation and development of future generations. They will slowly but surely destroy the future of humankind. History teaches us that the destruction of moral norms instituted by the Creator will inevitably lead to a domination of deviance and consequently to self-destruction.

The Holy Scriptures describe the fate of Sodom and Gomorrah, whose inhabitants were severely punished for their sexual licentiousness. We have no reason to assume that such history cannot repeat itself on a global scale. The Holy Word teaches us that the human being was created by God. Our Creator loves the sinner, but hates the sin.

We respect all persons as human beings irrespective of their race and creed, but we at the same time condemn immoral activities and the propagation of sin and deviance. We therefore call on all who share this position to raise their voices for the defence of universal values and the moral norms instituted by God.
