Update on Archbishop Tadeusz Kondrusiewicz

Tadeusz Kondrusiewicz

A note regarding the Belarusian Roman-Catholic archbishop Tadeusz Kondrusiewicz. In my article of 21 August 2020 I had lofted the thought that Kondrusiewicz could serve as a mediator between that state and its citizens. In his five years in Russia up until 2007, he had garnered very considerable respect. I did not then realise that the Archbishop was considered an adversary by the Belarusian state. Returning from Poland on 31 August, Kondrusiewicz was kept from re-entering his homeland. He was then not permitted to return until 24 December. He resigned from his position on 3 January, the occasion of his 75th birthday
